BARRANQUILLA, COLOMBIA – December 7, 2021: EnfraGen, LLC (“EnfraGen”), a developer, owner, and operator of specialized sustainable, renewable power and grid stability assets in Latin America owned by leading global private markets firm Partners Group, on behalf of its clients, and Glenfarne Group, LLC, is proud to announce that PowerMag has selected the Company’s Prime Termoflores plant as a Top Power Plant for 2021.
For more than four decades, PowerMag has honored the top performers in the power generation industry globally with annual awards to plants that have distinguished themselves as industry leaders for significant improvements made to their equipment, operations, staffing, or operating record to be at the top of its class in performance.
In this instance, PowerMag has recognized Prime Termoflores in the city of Barranquilla, Colombia for the ingenuity and innovation associated with a series of improvements made in 2020 to increase efficiency and performance to provide reliable support to a volatile and hydro-dependent energy market in the region.
After the 2016 El Niño phenomenon, which caused an arduous drought in some regions of Colombia placing the country at serious risk of power outages, Prime Termoflores identified improvements that could allow the 610 MW plant to deliver energy to the grid more efficiently. Prime Termoflores’ highly qualified and experienced in-house operations and maintenance team identified a series of solutions that would ultimately ensure a sustainable reduction in internal power consumption of approximately 3.05 MW. The improvements were made amid the pandemic, with strict biosecurity measures and without affecting the availability of the plant.
“When we were ready to make the connection to the current system, it only took us five days, and it was done during a scheduled gas turbine maintenance without affecting the availability of the units,” said Jose Serje, Prime Termoflores Operations Manager. “Prime Termoflores is a thermoelectric plant built in the 1990’s, and more than 20 years later, being recognized worldwide for its achievements in energy efficiency, demonstrates the innovation capacity of its team, commitment to continuous improvement and alignment with its objective of sustainable development.”
“We are tremendously proud. The award highlights the ingenuity and teamwork of our employees in identifying opportunities to improve the performance of our plants. We congratulate our partners. Thanks to the joint efforts of each of them, we have achieved this success,” commented Patricia Mejía, General Manager of Prime Energía Colombia, the operating company for Prime Termoflores.
